Holiday UFO's

I have been working my way through my UFO (UnFinished Objects):
  • school trousers taken in
  • Liberty blouse length shortened and sleeves cuffed
  • swimming bag strap shortened
  • wool merino skirt hemmed
  • grey denim skirt finished
It's very satisfying to get things finished that have been hanging around for awhile! Now I can start something new!

School Fete

We have a wonderful school fete at my children's primary school in October each year. I have promised myself that this year I will do more sewing for the fete. In order to do this I have made an earlier start than last year. I finished six aprons last nght. They are plastic coated fabric so easy to wipe down after activities. I bought the fabric at Darn Cheap Fabrics years ago and it has been gathering dust in my stash.

Very pleased with the finished products. My next "fete" project will be some bags. Stay tuned!

Holiday Sewing

Well I was lucky enough to have last week off, mostly by myself!! I have been dabbling in the sewing room and have just finished this new addition to my wardrobe.

The pattern is Vogue 8249 and is out of print (although you can still buy it online). The front opening is very low so I would need to wear a singlet underneath it. I will probably wear it with skinny jeans (that's what they're called, not necessarily how they look!), and black boots or ballet flats.

I have a number of other projects started so I need to get busy!

Work Skirts

My Winter work wardrobe was looking decidedly shabby so I have made myself a couple of new skirts. I have photographed one which is a Simplicity pattern 2451. It is a fabulous pattern. Very easy and quite a flattering fit. The first version I made in a black wool blend didn't fit!! Let's just say I underestimated my width. Luckily it fitted my lovely friend Anna at work. My second version, in grey wool blend is thankfully a winner!

I have made another version from the pattern which I will add in the coming days.

A Year Without Clothes Shopping!!!!

I have been very, very slack on the blog front! However, I have been very, very busy doing lots of other things on the home and work front. I have been planning on blogging since New Year's Day to document somewhere that my two sisters, my Mum, and my good self have decided to have a WHOLE YEAR off buying clothes, shoes and jewellery.

Sounds crazy I know, but between the four of us, we have enough fabric to clothe ourselves and everyone we know for quite some time! So, whilst I am still selling scarves on madeit.com.au and at some markets, my focus this year is going to be on keeping my wardrobe updated. I plan to use up lots of lovely pieces of fabric from my stash as well as patterns I have owned for a long or short time......here goes.....I did quite a bit of sewing over the January break and also in snatches since returning to work 4 days per week.

I made myself a lovely dress for my 40th birthday (not too long ago!)....I picked up the fabric as a remnant which cost me $20. It was a charcoal satin with metal threads so it crushed nicely.

Earlier in the year (sorry for the back tracking!)I decided to make myself an everyday dress for work using the same Simplicity pattern (2724) - it turned out OK. Maybe a bit busy for my liking.
Well I feel like I have redeemed myself by finally blogging. I have lots of other projects to share - just a matter of getting them photographed and online!
